Melissas is an apicultural unit located in Arta County and specifically in Gouriana, a village in the central Tzoumerka Mountains, 60 km away from the city of Arta and 75 km away from Ioannina. The region is rich in flora and fauna. More specifically, there are many wildflowers, arbutus trees, heather (springtime), kermes oaks. At higher altitudes we can find oak trees, firs, oregano, tea, savory etc.
We decided to engage ourselves in this natural wealth and try to manage it as pristine as possible through apiculture. Born in this natural paradise and wanting to stay in this place with lots of historical and religious traditions, we decided to fight and bring young people back to our village having the thirst and impulsion for rustic life and not to become victims of urbanization.
To Melissas is a unit at startup and produces orange honey, heather honey, pine honey, honey from various flowers all collected in the simplest way. With love and care as beekeepers, we also produce various beeswax creams, royal jelly and we collect oregano and tea from the Tzoumerka Mountains at an altitude of 1800 – 2100 m. With respect to nature and a basic idea in mind, that as we found it so should others, we all cut instead of uprooting. This way, To Melissas enters the cultivation process of organic tea and oregano production in a region with barren and unexploited soil.
