Spearmint is used in several recipes because of its incredible aroma. Mix it with rice or couscous, use it in tomato sauces, with aubergines, peas, green beans. You can season lamb or fresh fish. Its essential oil was found to have some antifungal activity and can have a calming effect when used for insomnia, nervous strain and stress. Spearmint has also been described as having antioxidant activity.

Herbal tea
Spearmint tea is digestive and helpful for the treatment of stomach ache as it relaxes the stomach muscles.
To prepare one cup: add 4 to 5 leaves in about 150 ml hot water. Cover and let stand for a few minutes (about 5 minutes are usually enough; it depends on how strong you want it!). Strain the tea into the cup. Enjoy it as it is or with your favourite sweetener. You can also add ice cubes, a slice of lemon, lemon juice or lemon zest and enjoy it as a refreshment!
